About our Farm
We grow more than 300 varieties of flowers and foliage on one acre of our 18 acre property in Oregon’s Hood River Valley near the Columbia River Gorge. We love experimenting and can’t resist a new beautiful or unusual plant. We also forage in our woodland for seasonal beauties like mock orange, flowering currants and columbine. Our focus on diverse and native plants helps our wedding flowers and arrangements stand apart.
Sustainable Farming & Floristry
Since our start in 2018, we’ve grown our flowers in a way to make our farm, its soils, and wildlife healthier over time. We rely on compost, cover crops, and natural fertilizers like chicken manure and seaweed extract, and employ low-till production techniques. Growing a wide array of flowers attracts pollinators and other beneficial insects and helps reduce disease and pest pressure. Our flowers fields are abuzz with activity.
In our floristry practice, we follow the old adage “reduce, reuse, recycle”. We forego floral foam in our designs and avoid single use plastics. Rather than disposable vases, we have a collection of handmade pottery and quality vases that are rented out and used again and again for events. After each event, every stem is returned to the farm and composted to feed the soil for future flowers.
We’re grateful for our customers’ interest in locally grown flowers. 80% of the flowers sold in this country are imported, most arrive by plane from South America. As concerns about climate change rise, many people have decided to reduce the transportation footprint of flowers by sourcing as locally as possible. It’s also reassuring to know that our flowers are free from synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.
Our People
Heather
Heather has gardened since she was a little girl starting with a row of zinnias on the edge of her family’s large vegetable garden. Decades later, she still gets a thrill from planting seeds and watching them sprout. Her English mother-in-law inspired her interest in rare and unusual plants, hence the wide variety of plants we grow. Her florals designs are a collaboration with the garden and the season. When designing, she’ll walk the field with a color scheme in mind, noticing what is blooming, what’s about to bloom and the opportunities for using plants at different stages – such as a flower that has set seed to make a great sculptural accent – to express the season.
Lex
Lex has been growing her whole life, from east coast to west, indoor and out. With an inherited green thumb from her mom, she possesses the attention to detail to grow most anything. Lex has spent time managing indoor commercial grows, including hydroponics and gourmet mushroom production, as well as managing gardens both for herself and her community outdoors. Lex has a strong passion for sustainability, and has long worked to re-strengthen the connection with our environment and our food.
The Pest Management Team
Momo
Momo is the resident handsome man. He’s a bit of a bully, but you cannot deny he’s a feature as beautiful as the flowers around him. He can be found either diligently ridding the farm of pests or trying to be somewhere he’s not supposed to.
Babushka
Bushkie single-handedly keeps the farm free from pests and critters. She takes her job very seriously. Babushka is persistent in her hunt and can often be found patiently waiting for the right moment to pounce. A big fan of climbing trees and putting Momo in his place.
Chairman
Chairman Meow is our feline supervisor. He rests in his perch to assure all farm operations are moving smoothly. You can trust in him to get the job done, or rather, send someone to get it done.
