We’re looking for a part-time flower farmer to work with us for the rest of the season and through the winter.

Job Description: Part-Time Flower Farmer (16 hours/week).  This job is a good fit for someone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of flowers, from seed to vase. You will participate in the full range of farming tasks including care of perennial crops, seeding, greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, and harvest. You will also have a hand in floristry including making market bouquets, weddings and events, drying flowers, and making wreaths.

The ideal candidate will have previous commercial farming experience. Floristry experience is a bonus. A full season of work experience on a farm is preferred. However, there is a lot to learn! We don’t expect you to know all the tasks, we’re happy to teach. Most of the time you’ll be working along side us until you are comfortable to take on a task on your own.

Qualifications:

  • A good work ethic, commitment to a job well done
  • Ability to work in a small team and also independently
  • Good listening skills and ability to follow directions
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment
  • Farming is hard physical work in all sorts of weather, among bugs and dirt. Worker must be comfortable leaning over for long periods, crouching, kneeling and carrying weight up to 50 lbs.

Company Description: We are a flower farm and design studio located in the beautiful Hood River Valley. Owner Heather Staten started the farm five years ago and it has grown to an acre of intensive production. You’ll be amazed by how much we can produce in a relatively small space. The flower crops are a diverse variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and bulbs. The business is supported by a 50-person weekly bouquet subscription, sales at select retail markets, and a growing wedding and event floral business. We expect to do a wedding every weekend during the 2022 growing season.

Our crops are grown using organic methods and we practice a permanent bed system to reduce compaction and overworking the soil. We value working with nature and seek to incorporate native plantings, cover crops, and compost amendments into our flower production.

COMPENSATION: $15-20/hour depending on experience.

If you are interested in applying, please send an email to Heather Staten at [email protected] with your resume and a bit about yourself and your interest in farming.
